Story Plan Final

JLM 319

Fall 2013

Topic

Student use of Adderall or other performance enhancers and the health issues involved. What’s the big deal with Adderall anyway? Why is it so dangerous?

Angle

Many Adderall users are unaware of the health issues that come along with the drug abuse. Because Adderall is a prescription drug used for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, it is widely popular among college students to take in order to accommodate more efficient studying skills. The angle is, why are college students unaware of the health issues brought along with the benefit of being more focused and why aren’t universities taking the issue more seriously.

I think it would be best to start with an anecdotal lead with a hard human interest. This will help the audience relate if they, too, are struggling with adderall use. I would be sure to incorporate sources that were addicts, family members, doctors, and a college professor.

Multi Media Plan

I would start my piece with a picture of what the prescription drug looks like so my audience would immediately be aware of what the story is about. Another multi-media piece I would use would to be incorporate a human interest aspect in the form or a package. I would make it very anecdotal to help the audience relate. I think having a piece like this in my story would help stress the impact this story could have on it’s audience.

Data

The data I would collect would be of the number of college students reporting the abuse of adderall versus the number who are prescribed because of ADD or ADHD. Additional data I would include would be the national numbers of people over the age of 18 being diagnosed with disorders that adderall is being used to treat. I would present my data in a map of the U.S. and on my map would be little tiny people that represent each 1,000 students across the country who abuse adderall.

Issues?

There have been a countless numbers and varieties of studies that have been conducted on adderall abuse. I think the biggest issue would be getting this story to stand out amongst others. However, what I believe would make my story stand out is the content and the multimedia I use to present it. What is different about my story is the tie in to the community and the college. Because we are in Oswego, both a college town and a city known for it’s drug abuse, all drug problems are problems in Oswego.

Rudy’s opens doors for Spring

15 Apr

Come rain, shine. or snow, people from all over came to Rudy’s Lakeside Drive-In for their spring opening on Wednesday, March 13.

“Our customrs were great, regardless of it’s snowing the customers were more concerned about coming out for the first day than worrying about what the weather was,” said owner Jason Livesey.

Livesey explains that a little snow never holds back a true Oswegonian.

“Being right on the lake, the weather changes often and it changes quite severely,” Livesey said.

Residents of Oswego say that the opening of Rudy’s is a sign that the harsh winter is coming to an end.

“It’s kind of a sign of spring, so people like to refer to the opening of Rudy’s as the end of winter and the start of Spring,” Livesey said.

Despite segals trying to steal your food, Rudy’s has been a hot spot since 1946.

“We give out fresh things and we try to make everybody happy,” said Meesha Manchester, a Rudy’s employee. “Everything about us really is about the customers, what makes them happy what satisfies them which makes us happy.”

Customers started their spring off right with their foot in the door at Rudy’s.

“It makes me look forward to spring,” said customer Leah Sweeney. “I like being outside, sitting outside, I love it.”
